As art director of Plants vs Zombies 2 I managed a multi-specialty team of creatives while also designing every zombie on the screen. This smash hit sequel achieved 25 million players in the first month of release (eclipsing the total lifetime downloads of the original game). Plants vs Zombies 2 won many prestigious awards, including DICE Casual Game of the Year.

The Work

Plants vs Zombies 2

PopCap

Summary: I defined the art pillars of Plants vs Zombies 2, determined sprint goals for creatives, and assigned production tasks.

 

Responsibilities: Art direction, presentation, creative strategy, people management, branding.

Character Design

PopCap

Summary: In addition to art direction duties, I personally contributed character designs for both plants and zombies (but mostly zombies).

 

Responsibilities: Character concepting, character design, in-game asset rendering, character animation.

Concept Art

PopCap

Summary: In addition to art direction duties, I personally contributed concepts for plants, zombies, backgrounds, and game features.

 

Responsibilities: Character concepting, character design, in-game asset rendering, character animation.

Summary: I created art assets for the Plants vs Zombies franchise, the Bejeweled franchise, and the PopCap imprint 4th & Battery.

 

Responsibilities: User experience, user interface design, icon design, illustration, animation.
